Who came to Norway in 2011?

In all, more than 30 300 people were granted permits for a prolonged stay in Norway; 12 900 were granted approval for family immigration, 6 700 were granted study permits, 9 900 received permits to work in Norway, and 4000 were granted residence after seeking asylum.

More than 1 000 people from 11 countries were granted residence permits.

In 2011, 73 per cent of applicants for family reunification were granted residence permits in order to live together with family members in Norway. However, there were big differences between countries as regards how many were granted approval.
