How do I give notification of Norwegian citizenship?

In order to become a Norwegian citizen by notification, you must complete a notification form. You must also enclose certain documents.

What do I do?

If you are a Nordic citizen, you must complete form GP-7099 B (Notification concerning Norwegian citizenship for Nordic citizens).

If you wish to send notification for children or adoptive children, you must use form GP-7101 B (Notification concerning Norwegian citizenship for adoptive children and children with Norwegian fathers).

The notification should be submitted to the police. If you live abroad (in which case the notification must concern a child resident abroad), it should be sent to the Norwegian foreign service mission where the child lives.

The police or the foreign service mission will send the case to the Directorate of Immigration (UDI) for processing.

It is free to submit this form.

What documents do I have to enclose?

Certain documents must be enclosed in addition to the completed notification form. The notification forms contain a list of the documentation requirements. No fee is charged for the processing of such cases.

How long will it be before I receive a reply?

The case processing time varies somewhat. You can obtain an overview of how long it takes on average to process the various types of applications, case-processing time, or by contacting the Information Service.

Can I appeal against rejection?

If your notification concerning citizenship is rejected, you may appeal the decision. Appeals against rejections are sent to the same place you submitted the notification. The Immigration Appeals Board (UNE) is the appeal body.
