Interview with the person living in Norway

Not everyone who wishes to have their family members come to Norway needs to be interviewed. We ask for interviews in as few cases as possible, but in some cases we need more information.

The police carry out the interview

If we have to request an interview with the person in Norway, we send the case to the police where he or she lives.

The police will get in touch with you who lives in Norway to arrange an appointment for an interview. How long it takes for the police to get in touch varies from one police district to the next. If it takes a long time before you receive an invitation to an interview, this is because the police have many cases to deal with.

You will receive a letter from the police with information about where and when the interview will be, as well as other practical information you need, for example about the use of a translator.

What happens in the interview?

In the interview, the person in Norway will be asked questions that will provide the UDI with important information about the applicant and the family member in Norway, so that we can make the correct decision about whether or not to grant a permit.

After the interview

After the interview the police will send the case back to the UDI. Here it will be registered by the archive and sent to the department which will process the case. The UDI receives many cases each day, and therefore therefore the applications are kept in the department's inbox until it is processed.
