Checklist Seasonal work

Application for a residence permit as a seasonal worker

By the end of February 2011 everyone will be able to register an application for citizenship online. Many applicants can already register their applications online.

You can register your application independent of opening hours, make an appointment to deliver relevant documents to the appropriate Police station or Norwegian Embassy/Consulate without having to wait in line, and you can pay the application fees online. The application is formally registered on the date you submit your passport with relevant supporting documentation. We will the process your application. (You may nominate a person in Norway to register an application on your behalf. However, you are responsible for the application and have to hand in the supporting documentation yourself.)

Applicants who cannot yet register their applications online must complete the form Application for a permit for residence or work. As a rule, you submit the application form to the Norwegian embassy or consulate in your home country or in the country where you have held a residence permit for the past six months. You will receive an answer to your application from the embassy or consulate or through the person you have authorised in Norway, if applicable.

You can also apply for a seasonal worker permit from Norway if you have legal residence here. You have legal residence if you are not subject to a visa requirement to enter Norway or if you hold a tourist visa or a permit in Norway or another Schengen country.

Authorisation

Your employer can apply for a residence permit on your behalf if you authorise him/her in writing to do so. You must complete the authorisation section of the application form or submit the authorisation form. Your employer submits the application to the police in the place where the employer has his or her registered business address.

Offer of employment

You must enclose a completed offer of employment form signed by yourself and your employer. If you have more than one employer, you must enclose a separate offer of employment from each employer.

Statement from NAV

NAV has set down a yearly quota for 2 500 permits to seasonal work in the agriculture and forestry industries. In applications for permits for seasonal work in the agriculture and forestry industries we therefore no longer need this consent from NAV.

For application for other types of seasonal work we require a consent to a permit from NAV about the need for labour can be met by workers from Norway or the EU/EEA-area. It is important that you enclose the consent from NAV with you application at the time of submission. This wil reduce the case processing time.

Housing

You must enclose documentation that you are guaranteed accommodation for the period that the application covers.

Other enclosures

You must also enclose the following documents with your application:

Registration with the police

Employees who have applied for a permit via a Foreign Service mission must register with the local police within seven days of their arrival in Norway. At the police station, they must present their passport or ID card/other travel document and provide all necessary information.

Renewal

If you have been granted a permit for less than six months, you can apply to extend the permit to cover a total of six months. You must apply for an extension before your current permit expires. Use the same application form as for first-time application and submit the application to your local police district. Renewal applications are subject to an application fee.
