The UDI wishes to provide good service to its users. When you contact us, you should receive correct information, quickly and in a friendly manner.
The UDI Service Declaration provides information about processing times, rights to appeal, confidentiality, access to case information and fees, and tells you where you can find more information.
The declaration applies to everyone applying for asylum, visas, work permits, residence permits, family immigration, Norwegian citizenship, study permits, travel documents and financial assistance for voluntary return on rejection of asylum applications, as well as to lawyers or other persons with power of attorney.
We at the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) are under obligation to
- give you correct and relevant information
- notify you about what information we require to handle your case
- give you access to the details of your case if you so wish
- maintain a high level of professional competence and handle your case professionally
- observe the obligation of secrecy and handle the information you give us confidentially, both during the processing of the case as well as after the case has been finalised
- reply to you within three weeks when you have sent us a letter (this deadline does not apply to applications)
- have updated information regarding case processing times for the various types of applications
- inform you about your rights of appeal, should your application be rejected
- give you, as an asylum seeker, information on your rights and duties and on the processing of asylum cases, before you are to be interviewed
You can expect that we
- are forthcoming and available to you
- give personal guidance and information in an understandable manner
- reply to e-mail enquiries sent to the Information Service within three
working days
- reply to e-mail enquiries sent to the Employer Service within one working day
- make a decision on all cases delivered to the Service Centre for Foreign Workers at Tøyen in Oslo within five working days, if these applications meet the requirements and are completed in full
We expect that you
- use the correct application forms and ensure that they are correctly completed
- state your correct identity and assist in ensuring that adequate and correct
information is provided
- ensure that UDI gets all the necessary documents
- inform UDI if your situation changes in any way that could affect the case
- notify us if you move (if you have a residence permit, this can be done at the National Population Register. If you are an asylum seeker, you must notify the police)
- have your full name on your mail box, so that our letters can reach you easily
- notify UDI in writing if you want to grant power of attorney in your case to someone else, so that he or she may follow up your case and get a copy of the outcome
