The Directorate remarks that au pair applications submitted after 28 Jan 2008 must include the standard employment contract and the form Important information on rights and obligations for au pairs and their host families. Applications submitted at a Foreign Service Mission or a Police Department after this date that do not include these documents, will be rejected.
The standard contract is now compulsory, and the host family has to pay for Norwegian language tuition.
The changes are published in the new cicular that The Directorate of Immigration (UDI) has developed based on the instruction from the Ministry.
New features in the circulars include:
- The standard contract for au pairs has been updated and is now compulsory.
- The UDI has developed an information document concerning the rights and obligations for au pairs and the host family. It will be required from now on that this document is signed by the au pair, the host family and the procurement agency. We appologise that this form so far is only available in Norwegian.
- The host family has to pay for the au pair to attend Norwegian language tuition with up to NOK 6 000 per year.
- The minimum amount of pocket money has been increased from NOK 3,000 per month to NOK 4,000 per month.
- It is still a requirement of 10 year residence in Norway in cases where the host family members are of the same nationality as the au pair.
- The au pair system allows young people to increase their language ability and gain greater knowledge of Norway and Norwegian culture by living with a Norwegian family, says Karl Erik Sjøholt, Director of The Managed Migration Department.
