Applications for a first time study permit, submitted within the 1st of July will be processed within the 1st of August. Please note that this only applies when all the necessary documents are submitted and all the requirements are fulfilled.

Last year UDI processed more than 6 000 applications for study permits. We cooperate closely with education providers, Norwegian embassies and consulates, and the police to facilitate the case processing.

Foreign students who are granted a residence permit in Norway are automatically granted a work permit. This permit is valid for part-time work for up to 20 hours per week as well as full-time during holidays.

Please note that the application for a renewal of the permit must be submitted at your local police station no later than one month before the permit expires. If the application is submitted in due time, you can still study and work part-time while the application is being processed.

When applying for a renewal it is important that the education provider gives you a statement of your study progress.
