Reducing case processing times for all types of cases is one of the UDI’s overall goals, but we must also ensure fair and responsible case processing.

The number of cases waiting to be processed is currently reduced for asylum applications and some other types of family and residency cases. At the same time, however, the new Immigration Act that entered into force on 1 January 2010 involves extra work. The Act is more detailed than before and involves certain new conditions that the UDI has to take into consideration. For instance, the requirements relating to applicants’ ability to provide (the subsistence requirement) have changed.

The UDI is working systematically to reduce case processing times. However, all simple cases for which all necessary documentation is available shall be processed quickly. In addition, we are introducing new electronic case processing solutions that will effectively help to reduce case processing times in the long run.
