Residents in reception centres
Asylum seekers waiting for a decision may stay in a reception centre. These centres are located in all parts of the country, and are managed by local authorities, non-governmental organisations and private enterprises on a contract with UDI. The contracts are awarded through a competitive bidding process. The number of centres and the number of residents depend on the number of new arrivals of asylum seekers and how fast their applications are processed. With a large number of new applications new centres have to be established. Following a lower number of applications and a larger number of decisions centres are closed.
