Work permits granted, by police district

Labour migration makes a positive contribution to the Norwegian society, and Norwegian authorities facilitate the entry of skilled workers into the Norwegian labour market. Foreign citizens need a work permit to work in Norway, except the citizens of another Nordic country.

The work permits granted will have different durations.  We therefore must distinguish between the number of valid work permits at a particular date, and the number of work permits granted during a period.

The distribution by police districts receiving an application for a work permit will give an indication of the geographical distribution of the foreign workers in Norway, even if the place of employment may be in a police district different from the one receiving an application.  Please note that some applications may be made at a Norwegian foreign service mission.
