Published: 20.05.2020

Applications for all types of seasonal work are now processed, and if you are granted a residence permit as a seasonal worker you can go to Norway now.

Information for employers

You do not need to contact us if you have seasonal workers who have sent applications for processing. We will contact you to confirm if the employment offer still applies.

For applications delivered from Norway
If you have submitted applications for your seasonal workers with a mandate from the police in Norway, and the workers are from countries that need an entry visa, the embassy needs their passports. As soon as the case has been processed, you will be notified by us.

You must then inform your employees that they must meet in person at the VFS application center in their home country and submit their passport and one passport photo. Here is a list of VFS application centers.

Please note that several application centers may be closed due to the corona situation. They must check the websites of the VFS or the embassy (external website) before they turn up. If your VFS centre is closed, please read this

For seasonal workers from Vietnam
VFS in Vietnam has limited opening hours (currently Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays) from Monday, 18 May. To submit a passport and passport photo, the applicant must book an appointment before going there.

For visa-free seasonal workers from Ukraine, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Albania
We send letters to you as an employer with information about when the seasonal worker can travel to Norway. This is because of limited opening hours at the embassy in Ankara. You must pass these letters on to the seasonal worker, and they must bring this letter when traveling to Norway.

Information for applicants

If you have sent an application for processing, you do not need to contact us. You will be notified when your case is completed.

Are you visa-free?
If you are visa-free, we will notify your employer when your application has been processed. We send a letter to your employer stating when you can travel to Norway. Your employer will send you this letter, and you must bring this with you when going to Norway.

Are you required to have a visa?
If you are granted a residence permit, you will need a visa in your passport to be able to travel to Norway. We will notify the embassy that they may issue such an entry visa to you. If your passport has already been submitted to the VFS application center/embassy, they will contact you when you can pick your passport.

If you have your passport yourself, you must meet in person at the VFS/embassy in the country you live in to deliver your passport and one passport photo as soon as you are notified that your case has been processed. Here you will find a list of VFS application centers.

Please note that several application centers may be closed due to the corona situation. You must check the websites of the VFS or the embassy (external website) before they turn up. If your VFS centre is closed, please read this

Remember that after arriving in Norway you must:

  • Follow rules for quarantine and isolation. Read more about this at helsenorge.no (external website, opens in new window).

  • Book an appointment with your local police district to enforce the residence permit and book a residence card. Note that the police have limited offers due to the corona situation. If it is not possible to schedule an appointment with the police, you can call us to let you know when you will start working.
