More family members who live outside the EU/EEA can travel to Norway
The additional groups for which it has opened from 21 October 2020 are:
- children and stepchildren over the age of 21 to a person residing in Norway
- parents and stepparents of children over the age of 21 residing in Norway
- grandparents and step-grandparents of a person residing in Norway
- grandchildren and step-grandchildren of a person residing in Norway
- children of established girlfriends/boyfriends
- spouse, registered partner, cohabitant, and children of a Norwegian citizen who live abroad and who travels to visit Norway together with the Norwegian citizen
- EU/EEA citizens and their family members residing in third countries
These groups come in addition to the groups that already can travel to Norway.
Although Norwegian borders are open for these groups, the usual requirements for visas and entry will apply. For those who need a visa, there may still be practical challenges regarding the possibility of receiving the application and issuing visas in some countries, as a result of having closed or reduced opening hours in some foreign stations and application centers. There are also some countries where it can be challenging to get a visa due to returning difficulties. These challenges apply to
Angola, Botswana, India, Lesotho, Madagascar, Thailand and Vietnam
