New color for travel documents
With the transition to the new Norwegian passports, there are also new immigration passports and travel documents for refugees. The travel documents have a new design, in line with the Norwegian passports.
It is not necessary for those who have a valid travel document to apply for a new one. Your current travel document is valid until the expiration date.
Appearance of the new travel documents
The color of travel documents issued after 19 October 2020 has changed.
- Travel documents for refugees are now blue. In the past, these have been green.
- Immigration passports are now gray. In the past, these have been blue.
Remember that even if you have a travel document issued before 19 October 2020, this will still be valid until the expiry date stated in the travel document.

New Norwegian passports
The police have launched a new version of the Norwegian passport (external website). You do not need to apply for a new passport if your current passport still is valid.
