New regulations for skilled workers with an employer in Norway who is going to change employers

Everyone who has a residence permit as a skilled worker with an employer in Norway can now change employers without applying for a new residence permit. You must work in the same type of position as before, and meet the other requirements for your residence permit.

If your residence permit is for one particular employer

If you have a residence permit as a skilled worker with an employer in Norway, and it is written on your residence card that you must work for one particular employer, the rules have now changed for you.

You can now change employers without applying for a new residence permit. You must work in the same type of position as before. The pay and working conditions must not be poorer than is normal in Norway, and you still must met the requirements for your residence permit as a skilled worker with an employer in Norway

If you get a new job where you are going to have a different type of position than before, you must still apply for a new residence permit. You cannot start in the new job before you have been given a new residence permit.

If your residence permit is not connected to one particular employer

If you have a residence permit as a skilled worker with an employer in Norway, and it is not connected to one particular employer, there are no changes in the regulations that concerns you.

You can change employers without applying for a new residence permit. You must work in the same type of position as before. The pay and working conditions must not be poorer than is normal in Norway, and you still must met the requirements for your residence permit as a skilled worker with an employer in Norway

If you get a new job where you are going to have a different type of position than before, you must still apply for a new residence permit. You cannot start in the new type of position before you have been given a new residence permit.
