The waiting time is calculated from the date you handed in your documents to the police or the VFS Application Centre. 

If we need more information to process your application, we will contact you. If you call us, we will not be able to give you any further information regarding the waiting time than what you find here. 

Information for you who have applied with the police or abroad

After handing in your documents to the police or the VFS Application Centre, it may take up to 2 months before we go through your application.

• If information or documents are missing from your application, we will contact you. 
• If your application is complete and does not require additional investigations, we will process your case, and you will receive a decision from us. 
• If your case requires additional investigation, this will be conducted. How long it will take to complete the investigations will vary. You can read more about what the additional investigations may involve. 

Please do not contact us if you have an application for processing that is still under the waiting time we have stated.

We usually process the oldest cases first. However, we make exceptions if that is more efficient. Sometimes, we see several cases involving the same employer or that several cases concern the same issue. It may then be more efficient to process these cases simultaneously. Some cases may therefore take less time to process than other cases.
