In the period from 15 January 2024 to 1 April 2024, we will be processing applications submitted up to and including 15 February 2023. If your case requires any additional investigations, you will have to wait longer for a decision.

In the period from 1 April 2024 to 1 July 2024, we will be processing applications submitted up to and including 15 March 2023. If your case requires any additional investigations, you will have to wait longer for a decision.

If you handed in your application later than this, you will have to wait longer. Unfortunately, as of now, we are unable to give any more information about when those who have applied after 15 March 2023 can expect to have their case processed. This is because UDI has many applications that are waiting to be processed. We will update the waiting times as soon as we have more information.

Limited capacity to respond to inquiries

We have limited capacity to respond to inquiries by telephone and e-mail. It is the same employees who respond to inquiries and who process the cases. We understand that many people want to contact us because of the waiting times. However, we will not be able to provide any further information about waiting times than what is stated on this page. We therefore encourage you not to contact us if the inquiry concerns waiting times.

If UDI has to do or has done additional investigations

The waiting times for the police or the embassy to conduct an interview, take DNA samples or carry out other investigations vary from place to place. You can find information about waiting times at the police on the police's website (external website) and about waiting times at the embassy on the various embassies' websites (external website). UDI cannot answer how long you will have to wait for additional investigations to be carried out at the police or at the embassy.

If you or the reference person has been interviewed by the police or the embassy, we aim to process the application within 4 months from the date we received the application back from the police or the embassy. The waiting time of 4 months applies in cases where the UDI has sent the application to the police or the embassy for an interview to be carried out. This does not apply to applications where an interview was conducted at the embassy in connection with submitting the application. In these cases, the waiting time described at the top of this page applies.
