Courses in the Norwegian language for people applying for a permanent residence permit

If you are between the ages of 16 and 55 years, you will as a rule be required to have completed approved tuition in Norwegian and social studies, and pass tests in Norwegian and social studies before you can be granted a permanent residence permit.

How many hours of tuition you need will depend on when you were granted your first  residence permit which forms the basis for a permanent residence permit. In the decision letters you have received from the UDI or the police, it will be stated whether your residence permit forms a basis for a permanent residence permit.

When were you granted your first residence permit?

  • First residence permit between 1 September 2005 and 1 January 2012

  • First residence permit before 1 September 2005
