Norwegian citizenship for Nordic citizens by notification


Requirements for Norwegian citizenship by notification

In order to obtain a Norwegian citizenship by notification you are required to:

  • Be above the age of 18.
  • Have lived in Norway the past seven years.
  • Have not been convicted of a criminal offence or been ordered to undergo enforced psychiatric health treatment or enforced psychiatric care.

If you lost your norwegian citizenship and later only have been a citizen in another nordic country, these requirements does not apply.

Release from other nordic citizenship  

If you are a Finish or Swedish citizen, you need to documents that you will be released from your citizenship when you have been granted a Norwegian citizenship

If you are an Icelandic citizen and meet the requirements to obtain Norwegian citizenship, the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) will ask you  

If you are a Danish citizen, you do not need to... Your Danish citizenship will automatically cease when ou obtain a Norwegian citizenship.
