Protection (asylum)

If you are persecuted or in danger in your home country, you can apply for protection (asylum) in Norway.

You apply for protection in Norway in person with the Norwegian police.

The Directorate of Immigration (UDI) will process your application. If you appeal the UDI’s decision, the Immigration Appeals Board (UNE) will process the appeal.

If your application for protection is granted, you will be given a residence permit as a refugee. If you are not granted a residence permit as a refugee, the Norwegian authorities will consider whether to grant you a residence permit on grounds of strong humanitarian considerations or connection to the realm.
