Procedures for processing family immigration applications from persons expelled for two or five years who have children in Norway

As of 1 March 2023, UDI introduced new procedures for processing applications for family immigration from persons who have been expelled from Norway with a time-limited entry ban, and who have children in Norway.

You can apply for family immigration within six months of the entry ban's expiry date

If you have been expelled from Norway for two or five years, and you have children in Norway with Norwegian citizenship, a residence permit or right of residence according to the EU/EEA regulations, you can apply for family immigration within six months of the date of expiry of the entry ban. This scheme is intended to prevent a significantly longer interruption of family life than the two or five years of your expulsion.

You must fulfil all other requirements for a new residence permit (except the requirement of not being subject to an entry ban) at the time when UDI reaches a decision on your case.

Although a new residence permit can be granted before the entry ban expires, you cannot travel to Norway and Schengen until after the ban has expired.

UDI will give the application priority

UDI will give your application for family immigration priority so that it is processed before the entry ban expires, or shortly after.
