Cuts support for private accomodation and for keeping pets in reception centres

The measures mean that it will not be possible for newly arrived refugees to live with pets at the National Arrivals Center in Råde or in asylum reception centres. This change in the regulations will not apply to those who live in reception centres with their pets today, while they are waiting to be settled in a municipality.
The purpose of the measures is, among other things, to bring the level of benefits and services offered closer to the level in the other Nordic countries.
- The government believes that we need to restrict the services offered and the level of benefits to ensure control of refugee flows. We must avoid a situastion where pressure on the municipalities becomes so high that support for helping Ukraine may be challenged, says Minister of Justice and Public Security Emilie Enger Mehl (Sp).
The changes will take effect as of 15 February 2024.
