To apply for a permanent residence permit, you must book an appointment at the police station to hand in your documents. There can be a long queue, so it is important to do this well in advance. You should apply and book an appointment three months before you meet the residence requirement or before your residence permit expires.

If you do not have an appointment with the police before your residence permit expires, you can keep your rights if you submitted your application electronically and paid the fee at least 37 days before expiration.
