International work Bilateral Initiatives under EEA and Norway Grants

The two Asylum and Migration programmes in Greece and four relevant Home Affairs projects in Bulgaria and Romania shall contribute to strengthening bilateral relations between the recipient countries and the Donor States.

The programmes will mainly focus on enhancing the migration management systems of the recipient countries. while the general attention to the needs of vulnerable groups may be reflected in the bilateral initiatives. These initiatives can relate to expected outcomes of the predefined projects in each programme, they may promote relevant pilot projects or facilitate donor partnership projects by carrying out match-making activities in conjunction with launching calls for proposals.

The precise use of the funds for bilateral relations allocated to the programmes shall be agreed upon between UDI as the Donor Programme Partner (DPP) and the Programme Operators of each programme. Particularly in Greece, UDI will have a special role in evaluating, selecting and promoting bilateral initiatives relating to the program that involves international and civil society organizations (GR-H); some of the available funding will be allocated through an Open Call while some initiatives for 2021 will be decided by the DPP and the Financial Mechanism Office.

All selection processes were put on hold in 2020 due to the ongoing pandemic that hinders international travel and physical meetings.
