Want to apply Citizenship for people who have residence cards for family members of EU/EEA nationals

The requirements for Norwegian citizenship are not the same for everyone. How old you are, when you came to Norway and who you are married to, can affect how long you must have lived in Norway before you can apply.

If you have been granted family reunification with a Norwegian citizen, you are only covered by these rules if he or she has returned to Norway after having worked, studied or been granted family reunification in another EU/EEA country.

When can you apply?

  • You should not apply before you meet all the requirements.
  • The waiting times for processing citizenship applications vary. If you apply too early, and we process your application before you meet all the requirements, your application will be rejected.

When you apply, UDI will consider which group you belong to, and whether you meet the requirements. Here you can check for yourself what the requirements are for the most common groups of applicants. Remember that you may belong to more than one group.
