How to apply

Print out the checklist and gather the necessary documents

The checklist provides an overview of the documents you need to submit as supporting documents for your application.

When you complete the application form electronically, you will receive a checklist tailored to your situation. If you have already applied, you can log in and find the checklist on your application (external website). Fill in your application

Fill in the form Application for a permit for residence or work (pdf, 2,0 MB) and contact the embassy to book an appointment.

If you are going to hand in the application at a VFS Application Centre, please contact the embassy by email or phone first in order to get information about how to proceed.

Hand in the application and documents in person

When handing in your documents from the checklist, please go to the VFS Visa Application Centre in Dakar, Senegal (external website, opens in new window) which represents the Norwegian embassy in Nairobi.

VFS will send your application to the Embassy of Norway in Nairobi, Kenya. The embassy will forward your application to UDI.

Do you need a visa to enter Norway?

If you are not already in Norway, you can apply for a visitor’s visa (Schengen visa) which makes it possible for you to travel to Norway to hand in your application for a residence card.

When you apply for a visa, you must hand in documentation of your relationship with the EU/EEA national and documentation which shows that he or she is an employee, self-employed, a service provider, have sufficient funds or is a student in Norway. You normally have the right to a visa, a right to a prioritised processing of your application and you do not have to pay a fee.
