When you apply for a residence permit for work yourself and submit the application from abroad, your employer or client must confirm the job offer by sending a form to UDI (external website). There are no changes if the employer applies on your behalf.
When the employer or client has confirmed your job offer, they will send you a code consisting of four English words. You must enter this code in a separate field in the application form. The code is verified when you enter it, and you cannot proceed with the application if the code is incorrect.
Below, you will find information about what the employer or client must do, what you must do as an applicant, and about fraudulent job offers.
-
What you must do when filling in and submitting the application form
If you are applying on your own and will submit your application from abroad, your employer or client must first confirm your job offer with UDI.
- Your employer or client in Norway submits a form to UDI (external website) to confirm your job offer.
- Your employer or client sends you a code consisting of four English words.
- You complete the application form for a work permit. In the form, you must enter the code when prompted.
- You pay the fee and submit the application form.
- You book an appointment at a Norwegian embassy/consulate, or a VFS application centre, to submit all the documents on your checklist.
Both you and your employer or client must sign the form for an offer of employment or assignment.

How to get access to submit a confirmation of a job offer on behalf of a company
To submit confirmation of a job offer on behalf of a company, you must either be the person who has rights for the company or have been granted the role as a representative in Altinn.
This is what the company administrator must do to grant access to themselves or another person:
- Log in to Altinn.
- Make sure you are acting on behalf of the company and not as a private individual. You can change this by clicking your name at the top of the page and selecting the correct company.
- If you are using the new version of Altinn, you must switch to the old version. You can do this by clicking “Go to old Altinn” or by going to Access management in the menu and selecting Switch to the old version.
- Select Profile and then Others with rights to the company.
- Click Add new person or company.
- Enter the personal identity number and surname of the person who will represent the company.
- Click Next.
- Click Grant access to individual services.
- Select the form “UDI – confirmation of job offer” (it is easiest to use the search field).
- Click “Add +”.
- Click Continue, then Complete delegation, and confirm.
UDI cannot answer questions about Altinn’s services. If you need further assistance, you must contact Altinn (external website).

Fraudulent work offers
We encourage applicants to be alert to fraudulent job offers and to always obtain confirmation directly from the employer before trusting an agent.
The Norwegian immigration authorities do not offer services to formally verify the authenticity of a work permit or a job offer. If you apply for a work permit in Norway, you are responsible for submitting genuine documents. This also applies if you use an agent.
We use your phone number and email address to contact you about your application. You are responsible for ensuring that the phone number and email address provided in your application are your own, and that only you have access to them. This also applies if you use an agent to submit your application.
Submitting fraudulent documents or being involved in a scam in connection with an application for a residence permit or a visa to Norway may have serious consequences.
If an applicant submits a forged job offer or other falsified documentation, this may result in a five-year entry ban to the Schengen area.
Below are examples of companies that have been misused in connection with fraudulent job offers. We have received this information after contacting the employers. These companies have nothing to do with the scam, and some of them do not exist.
Please note that the list is not complete. Even if your employer is not on the list, this does not mean that the job offer is genuine.
To learn more about how to identify fraudulent job offers, visit the European Employment Services (EURES) website (external website).
