National ID card
A national ID card is an identity card that you can use when you need to identify yourself.
Only Norwegian citizens will be able to apply for this for the time being, and it is voluntary to have a national ID card.
It is possible to get the national ID card with “the right to travel” so that you can use it as a travel document (in the same way as a passport) when you travel to the EEA countries and Switzerland.
You must book an appointment with the police to apply for a national ID card (external website), in the same way as you apply for a passport.
