When the sponsor is a private individual (family and friends)

In order to act as a financial sponsor, you will need to fill out a sponsorship form. If you are going to sponsor more than one person, you must send in a separate form for each person visiting you.

Sponsor requirements

The sponsor must:

  • live in Norway
  • have a national identity number (fødselsnummer)
  • be at least 18 years of age.

How to sponsor a visa applicant

  1. You must fill out an electronic sponsorship form.
  2. You must send the 4-word code to the person who will be visiting you.
  3. The applicant must fill out an application for a visitor visa and provide the 4-word code.
  4. The applicant must print out a copy of the electronic sponsor form and hand it in together with the other application documents at a foreign service mission or application centre.

As an alternative, you may use our paper-based option, Sponsorship form (pdf, 988 kB). Please note, you should expect it to take a bit longer for us to process.

  1. Fill out and sign the form before sending it to the person who will be visiting. The form must be signed by hand. You can send the form to your visitor by email or post.
  2. The person applying for a visa to visit must submit the sponsorship form, together with their other application documents, to the foreign service mission or application centre.
  3. If the applicant is granted a visa, they must bring the sponsorship form with them when entering Norway.

Please note: The sponsorship form can only be used for 1 entry into the Schengen area. If the applicant is issued a visa for multiple entries, the sponsor will have to fill out a separate sponsorship form for each visit.
