Can the police process my family immigration application?

The police can process renewal applications when there is no doubt that the conditions for the permit are met.

In some cases, the police may also process first-time family immigration applications handed in from within Norway, provided that there is no doubt that the conditions are met. This applies to applications from:

  • children under the age of 18 who are born in Norway and have both parents residing here;
  • a spouse, when the reference person is Norwegian, Nordic, or a foreign national with a permanent residence permit, and both parties are over 23 years old;
  • a cohabitant, when the couple has lived in a stable and established cohabiting relationship for at least two years, and the reference person is Norwegian, Nordic, or a foreign national with a permanent residence permit, and both parties are over 23 years old.
