I am currently in Norway on a visitor visa which is about to expire. Can I stay in Norway?

If you want to stay in Norway / the Schengen Area for any number of days after your visitor visa is set to expire, you must apply to renew your visa. You are not allowed to stay on a visitor visa for more than 90 days within a period of 180 days regardless of your situation. If you have a visitor visa which is about to expire, you must return to your home country. If you stay in Norway for longer than what your permit allows, you could face expulsion from Norway / the Schengen Area.

If you meet the requirements for applying for a residence permit in Norway, you can apply before your visa expires. As a general rule, you must be a skilled worker to be allowed to submit your application while you are in Norway.

Separate rules apply when applying from within Norway for applications for family immigration. If you follow the guide on this webpage, you will find what requirements need to be met for a family immigration application to be approved as well as if you can submit your application while in Norway.
