You do not fulfil the requirements for a permit
If you do not meet the requirements for temporary collective protection, your extension will be rejected. For example, if your first permit was issued on the wrong basis, or if you are no longer part of a category of people eligible for collective protection.
You may also be denied an extension if you breached any other terms for the permit while the permit was valid. Examples include not staying in Norway for at least half of the period you have held a permit.
You may appeal the decision. The deadline for appealing is 3 weeks.
What happens next?
- you can watch a short film which explains what is stated in your decision letter. Alternatively, you will receive an offer to meet with someone from UDI for a talk. If there is no QR code in your letter, UDI will call you by telephone to make an appointment with you to discuss the decision letter with you.
- you decide whether you want to appeal or not.
- if you appeal, and UDI does not change its decision, we will send your appeal to be reassessed by the Immigration Appeals Board (UNE). You will have the same rights as before until UNE has evaluated your case.
- if you do not appeal, UDI's decision will stand.
- if the rejection ultimately stands, we will assess whether or not you need protection on an individual basis. For practical reasons, you will have to register an application for protection again, even if you already have had an application on hold while you were under collective protection. The National Police Immigration Service (NPIS) will contact you about registering your application. More information is available about the individual assessment of applications for protection.
