Do I have to book an appointment with the police?

Your residence card serves as confirmation that you have a residence permit in Norway. Read your decision letter to find out whether you are going to receive a residence card in the post or if you need to book an appointment.

If you personally handed in your application in Norway, you will not need to book an appointment with the police. You will receive your residence card by post within 3 weeks.

How to book an appointment with the police

If you registered an online application via our website, you can book an appointment with the police by logging into My page (external website).

If you live in Oslo and did not apply online, you need to book an appointment with the police by phone at 22 34 21 00. Contact information for other police districts is available here (external website).

What should I do to ensure I receive my residence card by post?

It is important that every family member has their name on your letterbox. The post office will not deliver the card if the person's name is not listed on the letterbox, and the residence card will be sent back to the police.

You should not book any trips abroad before you have received your new residence card.

Remember to renew your residence card

You must renew your residence card every other year. To do so, register an application for a new residence card, and then book an appointment with the police.
