Are applications from children with Norwegian parents prioritised?
Children under the age of 18 receive a faster decision on their application if their parents have become Norwegian citizens. This applies if:
- Both parents have joint parental responsibility and have become Norwegian citizens.
- One parent has sole parental responsibility and has become a Norwegian citizen.
This means the following for applications for Norwegian citizenship concerning children:
If one parent has sole parental responsibility and has become a Norwegian citizen:
- The child will receive a decision within 3 months.
If both parents have joint parental responsibility and have become Norwegian citizens:
- The child will receive a decision within 3 months.
If only one of two parents with joint parental responsibility has become a Norwegian citizen:
- The child’s application will not be prioritised.
