Appeal (after my application for family immigration was rejected)
Information for you who have received a rejection and have appealed
We process appeals continuously. When we prcocess your appeal we will either grant your appeal and give you a residence permit, or forward your case to the Immigration Appeals Board (UNE) for consideration.
If we forward your appeal to UNE, you will be notified by email or SMS. You can find information on UNE’s website about how long it takes from UNE receives your appeal, until you receive an answer from them (external website).
If you are summoned for an interview, or the UDI has to make additional investigations, it will take longer until you get an answer to your appeal. If you are going to be summoned for an interview, we will notify you by email or SMS. We use the email address/ phone number which you entered in the Application Portal.
If you are called in for an interview or DNA test, it usually takes 3 months from you and your family member has taken a DNA test or been interviewed, until we have processed your case.
How long you have to wait may change. In that case, the new information will apply to you, even if you have been told a different waiting time previously. We update the information on this page once a month.
Can your application be processed faster?
There are many applicants who are currently living in a conflict area, who are waiting for an answer from the UDI. The fact that you or your family are currently in a conflict area is therefore unfortunately not normally sufficient for your case to be moved to the front of the queue. You can read more about what is required for your application to be moved to the front of the queue.
