Which tests are approved at the B1 level or higher?


  • The oral test segment of the Norwegian language test (Norskprøven) from the Directorate for Higher Education, Skills Norway (Kompetanse Norge) (2017–2022) or VOX (2014–2017) with a result of B1 or B2.  
  • Test of sign language proficiency (prøve i tegnspråklig kommunikasjon) from the Directorate for Higher Education, Skills Norway (Kompetanse Norge) (2017–2022) or VOX (2014–2017) with a result of B1 or B2. 
  • The oral test segment of the Norwegian test 3 (Norskprøve 3) from Norsk Språktest (test administered in the period 2005–2014). 
  • The oral test segment of Språkprøven i norsk for voksne innvandrere from Norsk språktest (test administered in the period 1999–2005).
  • Språkprøven i norsk for voksne innvandrere from Norsk Språktest with a result of 220 points or more (test administered in the period 1996–1999).
  • Test i norsk for fremmedspråklige – mellomnivå from Norsk språktest with a result of 220 points or higher (test administered in the period 1992–1996). 
  • The reading comprehension and oral communication test segment of the Norwegian test C1 – higher academic level (leseforståelse og muntlig kommunikasjon, Norskprøven C1– høyere akademisk nivå) from the Directorate for Higher Education (previously Skills Norway [Kompetanse Norge]). 
  • The oral test segment of the Test in Norwegian – higher level (Bergenstesten) from Folkeuniversitetet (Norsk Språktest) with a result of “passed” or better. If you took the test before autumn 2009, you must have a result of 500 points or higher.
