Who can expect to be interviewed and receive an answer from UDI at this time?
UDI will interview unaccompanied minors who are seeking protection on an ongoing basis.
If your case comes under the Asylum and Migration Management Regulation (AMMR), it may take several months to clarify whether your application is to be processed in Norway or in another country where you have registered your fingerprints.
If UDI does not need to carry out further investigations after the interview, we will reach a decision as soon as we can.
For applicants from Syria
UDI has begun processing applications for asylum from Syrian citizens and stateless individuals from Syria.
The situation in Syria has changed considerably since the new regime took over. UDI has to evaluate applications based on the new situation. This means it will take longer to process these cases.
You may also experience that some people receive an answer before you, even if they applied after you. Some cases take more time than others.
We have interviewed many applicants, but some are still waiting for an interview. If we interviewed you before we put these cases on hold, you will be called in for a new interview.
We will notify you when it is your turn to be interviewed.
Why do some people receive an answer before me?
We give priority to those who have been waiting the longest, but in some cases scheduling interviews and processing applications takes longer than in others. Even though you may have to wait longer than others, it does not mean that we have forgotten your case. It may take longer for reasons such as:
- If we need to examine your case more after the interview, it could mean that you will have to wait longer for an answer.
- It may take time for UDI to determine whether your case should be processed in another AMMR country. You may then have to wait longer for an interview than others.
- If there are other reasons for why you have not been interviewed or received an answer yet, we will explain to your lawyer why it is taking longer.
We know that waiting a long time is difficult, and we are working hard to process all applications for asylum as fast as possible.
You do not need to contact UDI to ask when your case will be finished. We will send the answer to you or the person representing you.
Is there anything I can do to shorten down on the waiting time?
You can make sure that we receive your identity documents as soon as possible.
- If you have original identity documents, you are to hand them in to your local police district. You may ask your representative for help with submitting your documents.
- If you have copies and photos, you can take them with you to your interview or send them by post to UDI at:
