This happens when you have applied for protection (asylum)

You have come to Norway to find a safe place to live. When you ask for permission to live in Norway, we need to check whether it is safe for you to go back home. Until we decide whether you can live here, we will refer to you as an asylum seeker.

As an asylum seeker, you will have to talk to a lot of people and move many times. You also have to wait a long time. You can choose to go home at any time.

The information on this page is for you who live or will be staying at an asylum reception centre.

You may not have to do everything you read about here. No two people are the same, so things can be different for different people. If you do things in a different order, or don’t do everything, that is usually fine.
