If you are 18 years or older and use an electronic ID (eID) to log in to our digital application solution, we consider your application to be submitted as soon as you have paid the fee, uploaded all required documents and submitted the digital application form.

How to do it

  1. Select the type of residence permit you want to renew and log in to UDI's digital application solution using eID (via ID-porten) when you are ready to fill out the electronic application form. You may use your own eID to apply for yourself or for your child.
  2. Fill out the application form.
  3. Pay the application fee. Please note that you cannot get a refund after you have paid the fee and submitted the application.
  4. Upload your documents. After you have completed the application, you will be presented with a checklist showing which documents you need to upload.
  5. When you have finished uploading your documents, click on the “Submit” button. It is important to upload all required documents to ensure your application is processed as quickly as possible. If you need to submit additional documents later, you can upload documents here
  6. Your application has now been submitted. If you submit your application at least one month before your current permit expires, you will retain your rights while waiting for a response to your application.
  7. Appointment with the police
    • If you have applied to renew a family immigration permit, you must book an appointment with the police to have your photo and fingerprints taken. When attending your appointment, you must bring your passport, but you do not need to bring the other documents you have already uploaded electronically.
    • If you have applied to renew a study permit, you do not need to book an appointment with the police. Your application was submitted when you uploaded the documents and clicked "Submit".

Remember, you must apply well in advance of your permit expiring – at least one month, or preferably 2–3 months, before.

If you do not have an eID

If you do not have an eID / access to ID-porten,

After you have handed in all your documentation to the police, your application will be registered as formally submitted.
