If you have lived in Norway for three years or more, or you are a child under the age of one who is born in Norway, you may meet the requirements for a permanent residence permit.

With a permanent residence permit you can reside and work in Norway indefinitely. You will also be given extra protection against expulsion.

 

Keep a permanent residence permit

If you already have a permanent residence permit and you are going to live outside Norway for more than two years, you must apply to keep your permanent residence permit.

What is a permanent residence permit and a permanent right to reside?

You can live and work in Norway with a permanent residence permit or a permanent right to reside.

You can apply for a permanent residence permit if you are not an EU/EEA national or a family member of an EU/EEA national. If you are an EU/EEA national, you and your family members can apply for a permanent right to reside.
