Duty to leave

If UDI has rejected your application for a temporary residence permit, you are given a duty (obligation) to leave and a deadline for leaving in the decision letter. This means that you must leave Norway and/or the Schengen area within the set deadline.

It is specified in your decision letter from UDI whether you are obliged to travel out of Norway or out of the entire Schengen area.

The duty to leave will be registered in the Schengen Information System (SIS), and you will be registered in SIS for as long as you have a duty to leave and until it is registered that you have left the Schengen area. You are responsible for registering your departure from Norway or the Schengen area.

If you are registered in SIS with a duty to leave, you cannot enter or stay in the Schengen area. The authorities in all Schengen countries can see your duty to leave the Schengen area in SIS.

If you do not travel out of Norway and/or the Schengen area, you may be deported and prohibited from entering Norway.
