Rejection of entry

As a foreign citizen, you can be rejected from Norway and the Schengen area. Rejection means that you are refused entry to Norway or that you must leave Norway and/or the Schengen area. You will be given a duty to return and a deadline for leaving.

Can you return to Norway?

A rejection is only a temporary prohibition. You can return to Norway at a later time.

Example 1: You enter Norway without a valid passport and are rejected on entry. You will then have a duty to leave Norway with a deadline for leaving. You must then leave the country and register your departure from Norway. If you later return with a valid passport, being deported last time will not prevent you from entering Norway.

Example 2: You enter Norway without a valid visa and are rejected on entry. You will then have a duty to leave with a deadline for leaving the Schengen area. This means that you must travel from the Schengen area and that your departure must be registered in the Schengen Information System (SIS). If you later come to Norway with a valid visa, being deported last time will not prevent you from entering Norway.

Grounds for rejection and right of appeal

  • Nationals of countries outside the EU/EEA area

  • EU/EEA nationals
